Obituary of Earl Kenneth Greene

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Kenneth Greene of Williamsburg went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3 at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Lightfoot, VA on July 8, 1939 to the late Lloyd and Hazel Greene. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty; two daughters, Deborah Greene and Donna Amory (John, who was the best son-in-law a man could want); and son, Steven Greene, all of Lightfoot. Three special grandchildren, John Amory (Mikki) of Richmond; Sarah Beth Amory and Anya Amory of Lightfoot. A sister, Grace Gardner (John Hill) of Norge; and a brother, Tommy Greene (Carolyn) of Williamsburg. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Lloyd Bruce Greene; sister-in-law Gracie Greene; and special family friend Shirley Nowell. Kenny graduated from James Blair High School in 1957. At the age of 18 he went to work for the College of William & Mary as an accountant and went on to become the college's treasurer. While at the college he worked at the Colonial Stores for 25 years. He retired on a Friday from the College of William & Mary after 33 years of service and on the very next Monday reported to work as an accountant for the Williamsburg Pottery and worked there for 15 years. In his spare time he loved traveling, going to auctions, playing the slots and loved to take his dog, Cindy, for a ride every day. A special thank you to the Peninsula Cancer Institute for their support and care. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188 or to the building fund at James River Baptist Church, 4931 Centerville Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188. Family and friends are asked to join in a celebration of Kenny's life at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 8. Prayer will begin at 7 p.m. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.nelsencares.com or vagazette.com.
