Shirley J. Stimmel

Shirley J. Stimmel, 85, of Angola and formerly of Fremont, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Stimmel was born July 19, 1927, in Decatur, to Ray and Helen (Chronister) Languell. They preceded her in death. She married Elmer Eugene Stimmel on July 23, 1946, in Columbia City. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1988. Mrs. Stimmel retired in 2003 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital as a cook, after 23 years of service. She also formerly worked for 11 years at ILC in Fremont, and also worked for J.C. Penny’s in Angola. She was a member of the Jamestown Church, member of the Angola Ladies of the Moose, worked as a volunteer for the Steuben County Council On Aging and was a volunteer for the Cameron Memorial Community Hospital Auxilary. She is survived by three daughters, Catharine J. and John Carey of Ortonville, Mich., Joyce R. and Jerry Ostrom of Fremont and Patricia A. and Marty Swander of Fremont; two sons, John G. and Annette Stimmel of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ron and Gena Stimmel of Granger; two former daughters-in-law, Dorothy Stimmel of Fremont and Linda Stimmel of Dalton, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four sisters, Marilyn Wallace of Mulberry, Fla., Janice Stanski of Fort Wayne, Linda Peters of Fort Wayne and Rita Mathy of Springfield, Ill.; and seven brothers, Fred Languell of Macclesfield, N.C., Ray Languell Jr. of Scotia, N.Y., Kenneth Languell of Fort Wayne, Tom Languell of Peru, Ind., Roger Languell of Fort Madison, Iowa, and David Languell of Deer Park, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Eugene Stimmel; parents, Ray and Helen Languell; four brothers, Richard D. Languell, Gerald B. Languell, Harold W. Languell and Norman Robert Languell; one sister, Gwendolyn Sue Gebbart; one granddaughter, Jade Elizabeth Stimmel; and one step-grandson, Bryan Walker. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont with the Rev. George Foulk officiating. Burial is in Jamestown Cemetery in Fremont. Calling is Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at Beams Funeral Home. Memorials are to the Steuben County Cancer Association.
