Obituary of Elizabeth H. Benson
Elizabeth (Harris) Benson, 85, of Raphine passed away Friday, July 27, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born May 14, 1928 in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late W. B. and Margie (Truslow) Harris. On December 27, 1945, she married the love of her life and soul mate, Robert Eugene Benson. The two shared a blessed union of 67 years together. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Benson; two brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Benson joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Waynesboro in 1953 and had been a faithful member for 60 years. In previous years she had been active with the youth of the church and Pathfinders. She had lastly been employed as a treasurer for Potomac Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and previously had worked as the secretary before retiring. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts of all kinds, collecting dolls and camping. Liz will be remembered by those who knew her as a very talented woman who was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her loving husband, survivors include her children, Beverly Benson of Staunton, Robert Preston “Robbie” Benson and wife, Malissa June of Raphine and Brenda Mitchie of Raphine; grandchildren, Bencie Byrd, Preston Terrell, Ronald Skorupa, Beth Benson, Omar Benson, Siheim Benson, R. Jason Benson, Heather Cash and Lemuel Thompson; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, with Pastor Will Johns officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleums & Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the funeral home.
