Obituary of Jim Jones
Jim Jones, 91, of Liberty, died Wednesday morning, September 25, 2013, at Reid Hospital, Richmond. Jim was born May 14, 1922 in Bath to Joseph W. and Martha Burer Jones and was a 1940 graduate of Short High School in Liberty. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and attained the rank of corporal while serving with the bomb disposal unit in Guam and Hawaii. His military honors included the bronze star. Jim spent his working career as a meat cutter at Krogers, Mike’s Finer Foods and Woodruff’s. He also farmed for many years and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working in the yard. In his leisure time, he liked to play euchre. Jim was devoted to his wife and family. Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years, the former Bev Hoppes whom he married September 24, 1988 in Union County; four children and their spouses: Michelle Lowden and Mike of Liberty, Jenni Gibbs and Chester of Connersville, Brian Morgan and Lisa of New Trenton, Sarah Gifford and Sean of Liberty; his sister: Dorothy J. Jones of Fairfield, Ohio; his brother: Joe Jones and his wife, Martha of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren and their spouses: Sarah James and Jesse of Fountain City; Aaron Lowden and Nikki of San Diego, California; Chris Smith of Saginaw, Michigan; Matthew James Smith, Kaylee Arnold and Emma Lowden, all of Liberty; Amanda Gibbs of Cambridge City, Buddy, Lewis and his wife, Takoyama; Megan, Shannon and Jesse James Gibbs, all of Connersville; Andrew James Robert Morgan of New Trenton, Ashley Gifford and Aidan James Gifford, both of Liberty; ten great-grandsons with two additional great-grandchildren expected soon; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Mary Doris Morgan; a sister: Mary Reuss and his brother and sister-in-law: Raymond and May Jones. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery south of Liberty with military graveside honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
