Obituary of Wilfred L. Espenlaub
Wilfred L. Espenlaub, 95, of Evansville, passed from death to life Friday, October 4, 2013, at Deaconess Hospital. He was born February 18, 1918, in Evansville. He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Newburgh. He was a member of the Newburgh Lodge, Scottish Rite, Hadi Temple, Eagles #427, American Legion Post #44, and St. John’s East Choir. Wilfred served in the U.S. Navy, on the regional board of the Federal Land Bank Association, and as president of the School Building Board for the original Castle High School. He was an award winning soy bean, wheat and corn farmer for the third generation on the same land in Warrick County. For 18 years, he delighted in safely busing children to and from Warrick County schools. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Weltha Espenlaub, who passed away June 21, 2010; sister, Mildred A. Rudolph; and his parents, Edward C. and Marie E. (Deusner) Espenlaub. Wilfred is survived by his wife, Beula Hopper; sons, David E. Espenlaub of Dallas, TX and Alan L. Espenlaub of Kansas City, MO; sister, Ilene V. Fleming of Evansville; grandchildren, Charity A. Espenlaub, Sarah Gibbins, Jonathan Espenlaub, Julia Warren; great-grandchildren, Sarah Anne Warren, Makya Warren, Keiser Gibbins, Jameson Gibbins, Roen Gibbins, and Kian Espenlaub. Services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 7, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ken Slater, with burial at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday, 1-6 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 4377 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN 47630, or the charity of your preference.
