Leroy Henry Fega

Leroy Henry Fega, 90, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his home. He was born on December 3, 1922 in Axtell, Kansas and was the son of the late Eugene and Loretta Atkins Fega. Leroy lived the majority of his life in the Harrisonburg area. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII from May 1941 to October 1945 where he received a Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Medal. He owned and operated Rockingham Ford Tractor Sales from 1968 until he sold the business and retired in 1984. He was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church, ACCA Temple, past president of Valley Shrine Club, past president of Harrisonburg Moose Lodge #1686, a member of Rockingham Union Masonic Lodge in Harrisonburg, VFW Rion-Bowman Post 632, and a past member of Harrisonburg Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #450. Having served on the Board of Directors at Lakeview Golf Course, Leroy was a passionate and avid golfer and played up until October 2013. On December 16, 1944 he married the former Anna Lee Armentrout, who survives. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, predeceased by 1 brother and 4 sisters. Mr. Fega was also preceded in death by his only child, a daughter, Tina Lee Fega who died on June 14, 1969. In addition to his wife, Leroy is survived by his beloved dachshund, “Wendy”; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Cherry and Ric Tharp, Pat and Irving Byrd, Joyce Nair, his niece, Kitty Cline and Sentara Hospice. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 pm, Friday evening, November 22, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 23, at the Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Sam Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Woodbine Cemetery.
