Willard Marlen Alford

Willard Marlen “Muzz” Alford, 80, of Culpeper, VA went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 2, 2013 at his residence. . He was born October 19, 1933 in Hurricane, West Virginia to Willard and Gladys Alford. . Marlen attended New Salem Baptist Church until his failing health, where he was a youth leader during the 1970’s. He enjoyed sports and coached the Astro baseball team in 1972 and 1973. Marlen worked for AT&T from 1953 until he retired in 1983.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Alford of Culpeper; his children, Mike Alford and Sue Alford, both of Culpeper and his grandsons Justin and Kevin Alford. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, David W. Alford.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, Friday, December 6, 2013 with Pastor Sandy Martin conducting the service at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbeaeres will be Randy Rooper, Billy Rooper, Mathew Berry, Chuck Coates, Bill Huff and Virgil Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 1725, Culpeper, VA 22701 or to the New Salem Relay Team, The Lightwalkers”, c/o 8233 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
