Nellie Mae (Stoglin) Akers, 87, of Afton, died on Tuesday December 17, 2013 at home.
Mrs. Akers was born on January 9, 1926 in Nashville, Tennessee and was a daughter of the late George W. and Jessie (Harris) Stoglin. Nellie was a devoted Baptist who loved painting, gardening and writing poetry. She also enjoyed watching the birds at her bird feeder. Nellie was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball fan.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence k. Akers.
She is survived by a son, Carrington R. Stevens; two daughters, Patricia S. Walden of Hampton, Rise L. Culotta of Hampton; a step-daughter, Sherri K. Akers of Lightfoot; a sister, Paula Hudgins of York County; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas F. Stevens Jr., Mark A. Stevens; one brother, and two sisters.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday December 20, 2013 at 2 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor John P. Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.
