Edward Cleon Chauncey Jr.

Edward C. Chauncey Jr. passed away at his home with family by his side on January 3, 2014. He was born February 19, 1932 in Alexandria, Virginia, to his father Edward C. and mother Margaret Watson Chauncey. He attended public school until age thirteen then enrolled at Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance, Virginia. He was an accomplished marksman and Captain of the shooting team. After graduating he attended VPI before enlisting in the US Air Force to serve during the Korean War. Shortly before completing his commitment, he met his future bride Roberta Williams, as she was finishing her RN degree in Frederick, Maryland. Bobby and Ed were married December 1, 1954 and remained in love for the following 59 years. They made Alexandria their home and raised three wonderful daughters; Sandra, Janice, and Michele. His love for Bobby and his girls was undaunted, and he forever remained committed to each of them. With the nest empty, and Ed retired from the District of Columbia as a computer analyst, they moved to Remington VA in 1985. There Ed developed an instinctive and acclaimed skill for custom framing and antique print collecting. He fervently pursued this interest until his health would no longer allow him to continue. In 2001 Bobby and Ed purchased a large lot in Culpeper County. He skillfully developed the land and proudly built their dream home. This custom built house would prove flawless in meeting each of their future desires and comforts. Ed’s passion for framing and print collecting flourished! He cherished every opportunity to teach and share his craft with his grandchildren. He further complimented Bobby as the consummate host to countless friends and family. Moreover, his home enabled them to provide a loving and nurturing home for their eight grandchildren and their first great grandchild, AnaLu. Ed unconditionally loved and cherished every minute of their company. He also went on to renew friendships from the academy and will be remembered as an active contributing member of the AMA Alumni Association. Edward’s other lifelong love was fishing and hunting. He used his outdoor knowledge and experiences as a foundation for teaching his family the ways of a “distinguished southern gentleman”. His lessons went beyond the field, and into the home, where they were rendered lessons on God, family, and country. They will forever help steer us in our personal, family, and work lives. Edward is survived by his wife Roberta; an only sibling, Kathryn Gracza and her husband John of Annandale; daughter Sandra Kieffer of Front Royal, three grandsons, Dugan Flynn with wife Jennha (whom is expecting a great-grandchild), Casey Flynn, Chase Flynn, granddaughter Caitlin Flynn; daughter Janice Miller and husband William of Culpeper, two grandsons, Jason with wife Julianna, great-granddaughter Analu, Justin with wife Jenn (whom is expecting a great-grandchild); daughter Michele O’Rourke with husband Bruce, two grandsons, Hunter and Austin. Funeral services will be held at the St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Gray conducting the service. Interment will be in the Culpeper National Cemetery, Chandler Street with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post 2524 Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 330 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the Clore-English Funeral Home Monday, January 6, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be given to a charity of your choice.
