OBITUARY
Elizabeth "Libby" Doss
December 25, 1927 – January 4, 2014
IN THE CARE OF
Alexander Funeral Home - North Chapel
Elizabeth "Libby" Hickman Doss of Evansville, Indiana passed away on 01/04/2014.
Born 12/25/1927 in Clendenin, WV, she was married to John L. Doss for 58 years.
Throughout her life, participation in a local Christian church was very important to her.
Having earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Ohio University in 1949, she worked at Dupont in WV, but spent most of her working career as a Mom, an Historical Interpreter at Conner Prairie and the Morris Butler House, and cooking open hearth Harvest Suppers at the Huddleston House.
She won many awards for her historical work, sewing, quilting, and cooking.
Although she did not garner any trophies for it, Libby "masterfully" raised three boys, exposing them to good food, homemade clothes, the great outdoors, the principles of self-sufficiency, and the importance of family.
Libby was preceded in death by her son David, parents Mary and George Hickman, and husband John L.
She is survived by her sons John H. (Mindy) and Paul (Heidi), grandchildren Libby (Matt) Doublestein, Jonathan (Christy) Doss, and David Doss, Great Grandson Caleb Doublestein, sisters Mary Lou Butterworth and Kathryn McCrary, and Sister-in-Law Betty Doss.
Private services will be held at a later time.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Indiana Historical Society.
Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
