Obituary of Janet Jan Sue Garvin Bertram
Janet (Jan) Bertram, 75, passed away and went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2014 in Kokomo, Indiana. Janet was born on May 5, 1938 in New Castle, Indiana to Roy and Margaret (Fielding) Garvin. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1956. Also in 1956, Janet married Knox Mitchell Bertram in New Castle. In 1960, the couple moved to Kokomo. In 1967, Janet began working at Delco Electronics (General Motors) where she was a member of UAW Local 292. Janet worked at Delco for 30 years until her retirement in 1997. Here she met many friends who were dear to her heart. She enjoyed time spent with them whether it was taking road trips, walking the great outdoors, gathering for weekly luncheons, or attending concerts in the park. Most importantly, Janet was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who was devoted to her family. She was especially fond of attending sporting, school, and church activities in which her daughters and granddaughters participated in. She also made many personal sacrifices for her loved ones throughout her life. She was truly an inspiration to her family and will be greatly missed. Janet is survived by two loving daughters, Cindy (Scott) Miller of Carmel, and Vicki (Bob) Smock of Kokomo; three granddaughters, Lyndsey (Joey) Dyer of Russiaville, Kristin Antosik of Tampa, and Samantha Miller of Carmel; three step grandchildren, Kriss Smock of Frankfort, Hadley Miller of San Francisco, and Tyler Miller of New York City; one step great grandson, Evan Smock of Frankfort; three brothers, Jack (Lois) Garvin, Bill Garvin, Roy (Peggy) Garvin Jr., all of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Knox; her sister Mary Raines; and her brother-in-law, Bruce Raines. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 11 AM at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902, with Will Price officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
