Martha A Kilby

Martha Ann Pastorius Trout Kilby, 93, of Fort Belvoir, VA, died at the Belvoir Woods Nursing Home at The Fairfax in Fort Belvoir on Monday, February 3, 2014. She was the widow of Col. (Ret.) Albert Brown Kilby whom she married on Valentine’s Day in 1971 in Reno, Nevada. Marty Ann, as she was known to her family, was born on July 14, 1920 in the Daniel Pastorius House in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. Francis Daniel Pastorius was the founder of Germantown, the first permanent German settlement in America, and he was also "the first poet of consequence in Pennsylvania . . . [and] one of the most important poets of early America". Marty Ann was the second child of four born to Neall Harrison Trout, Sr. and Catharine Brothers Wilson Trout. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Trout Huber, and two brothers, James Neall Trout, Sr. and Neall Harrison Trout, Jr. Her early years were spent in Duncannon, PA and Millersburg, PA . Mrs. Kilby’s survivors include her two stepsons, Kraig Kilby of San Rafael, CA and Bruce Kilby of Elk Grove, CA; six step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including: Martha Huber Harrington, James Neall Trout, Jr., Lynn Trout Berman, Neall Harrison Trout, III, Thomas Crabtree Trout and Stephen Walker Trout. Martha graduated from Millersburg High School where she was an accomplished basketball player. She attended one semester at Penn State University. During her tenure with the federal government she held a variety of positions and was stationed in cities throughout the United States, including Denver, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and also served the federal government in Wiesbaden, Germany in the 1960’s. She retired in 1975 from her position as Hearing Assistant to an Administrative Law Judge for the Department of Labor. Martha was an extremely caring and thoughtful person and her generosity to family and friends defined who she was. Her positive outlook on life and her utter selflessness will be remembered always. A longtime resident of The Fairfax at Fort Belvoir, she will be missed by the other residents and the staff. The family suggests memorial contributions to Heifer International, an organization dedicated to providing basic needs to the world’s most impoverished countries.
