Obituary of Lee Heck
Lee Heck, 83, of Connersville, died Friday evening, February 14, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. A Fayette County native, Lee was born April 25, 1930 to Webster and Hazel Florea Heck and was raised on the family farm near Harrisburg. He was a graduate of Harrisburg High School and attended Purdue University. Lee attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while stationed at Sealand Air Force Base in Chester, England while attached to the Honor Guard. He also traveled to seven different countries dealing with classified information prior to the Korean War. Lee had been employed as a chemist at Metal Plating in Connersville and had also worked in Goshen and Auburn. For several years, he worked at Family Dollar Store in Danville. Lee enjoyed socializing and his leisure time following retirement. Lee is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Kay Gideon whom he married January 3, 1981 in Raleigh; his children: Melany Heck of Brownsburg, Rachel Wieman of Centerville, Andrew Heck of Dallas, Texas; Jane Herzog of Centerville, Ohio; his step-children and their spouses: Melvin Gideon and Melodi of Lakeland, Florida; Mark Gideon and Lindy of Spiceland; Bessie Heller and Tim of Rushville; Nan Case of Greenwood; Katherine King and Cory, Matt Gideon all of Connersville; his brothers and their wives: Carl and Pat Heck of Connersville; Ray and Lucille Heck of Cambridge City; eighteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lee is preceded in death by his sister: Mary Ann Heck and his brother: Dale Heck. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
