Obituary of Bernard G. Reust

Bernard “Bernie” George Reust, 87 of Huntington went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2014 at the University of Arizona Medical Center/Kino Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He left school to serve his country in the Army and received the Bronze Star while serving in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. He was wounded in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a former member of the Parish Council; he was a former member of the Saint Catherine Catholic Church in Columbia City. He owned and operated Schmidt Electric, Inc. of Fort Wayne. He was a 62 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 305 and was past president of the National Electrical Contractors Association and was a member of the American Legion Post 160 of Roanoke, and was a life member of the VFW. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed woodcarving and was a member of the Rincon Wood Carvers. He was born on April 17, 1926 in Huntington, a son of Henry and Catherine Reust. He was united in marriage to Ardella Ness on May 30, 1950 at Saint Catherine Catholic Church (Nix Settlement) in Columbia City. His wife survives. Additional survivors include four sons: Anthony (Karen) Reust of Columbia City; Gerard (Teresa) Reust of Lagro; Ben (Tami) Reust of Roanoke; Andrew (Staci) Reust of Columbia City and two daughters: Mary Meerz of Fort Wayne and Sharon (Ken) Deetz of Huntington; 19 grandchildren: Brad Reust, Blake Reust, Stacey Gettys, Noah Gettys, Ryan Gettys, Brett Gettys, Jeff Zickgraf, Rene (Kate) Zickgraf, Brenten Reust, Richard Reust, Lindell Reust, Megan Reust, Adam Reust, Eric Reust, Ian Deetz, Kyle Deetz, Nathan Deetz, Dustin Reust, Damian Reust and a great granddaughter: Madison; 5 brothers: Tom (Peg) Reust of California; Mark (Phyllis) Reust of Huntington; Harold (Ellie) Reust of Yoder; Lee (Marilyn) Reust of Huntington; Dave (Mary) Reust of Huntington; and a sister: Kate Purdy of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Ann Gettys; 4 brothers: Ed Reust, Hank Reust, Paul Reust, William Reust and a sister: Alberta Hine. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2:00 – 7:00pm with recitation of the rosary at 1:30pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 10:00am at the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 840 Cherry Street, Huntington with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Interment will take place at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made out to Donor's Choice of Charity in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
