Obituary of Dean L. Kern

Dean L. Kern, 86 of Bluffton and formerly of Markle passed away at 10:50am on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at River Terrace Estates. Dean was a 1944 graduate of East Union High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a life member of the Markle Church of Christ where he had served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Elder. Dean had worked at General Motors for many years, as well as Wayne Metal, RCA at Berne, and then Magnavox for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed wood working and playing golf. Dean was born on March 15, 1927 in Fort Wayne, a son of Arthur and Ethel (Benjamin) Kern. He was united in marriage to Ilene Cayot on June 8, 1946 in Fort Wayne. His wife survives. Additional survivors include four daughters: Judy (John) Braden of Bluffton; Barb (Jerry) Sheets of Bluffton; Connie Kern of North Webster; Lisa (Randy) Workman of Lagro; a brother: Walter Kern of Avilla; two sisters: Arlene Hart of Avilla; Gloria Zielinski of Newburn, NC; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother: Russell Kern. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 2:00 – 8:00pm at the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse Street, Markle, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:00am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Markle Church of Christ with Greg Comp and Gerald O. Moreland officiating. Interment will be at the Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Memorial donations may be made out to Markle Church of Christ Missions in care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle, IN 46770.
