John W. Stone III of Stoney Creek in Nellysford, VA, died March 21 at Augusta Health. He was 79. Formerly of New Hope, PA, John was born and raised in Trenton, NJ. He was a graduate of Rider University and Officer Candidate School; he served in the Navy from 1956 through 1959. He developed Stone Chemical Products in Trenton, NJ, with his father, which he ran until his retirement, after which he became a certified auctioneer. He was a devoted member of the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Trenton for many years; he was also active in the Jaycees and later in life, in Rotary International. Throughout his life, he enjoyed anything mechanical, including flying his Cessna and baling hay with his relentlessly self-repaired tractors. For many years, he was a member of Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served on the session. Upon retirement, he moved to Nellysford, VA, where he was a member of Rockfish Creek Presbyterian Church and active in the wood ministry. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; a daughter, Melissa, of Annandale, VA, and a son, John, of Nellysford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Wildlife Center of Virginia, 1800 S.
