After returning from Vietnam, Scot enrolled in college and earned a BA degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1975 and then went on to graduate from Franklin Pierce Law School in 1980. He was a prosecutor and legal advisor in New Hampshire from 1980 to 1985, when he was recruited to the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). As a DSS agent Scot served tours in countries such as Russia, Lebanon, Belgium, Algeria and Thailand. As Team Leader for the MSD (Mobile Security Division), he ran teams of specialists trained in dangerous situations during visits to various classified countries. His missions have been described in books, articles and appeared in a history channel documentary. He was awarded three Meritorious Honor Awards, eight Superior Honor Awards from the State Department and promoted to FE-OC before his retirement as a Special Agent/Senior Advisor.
