Alfred Cheatham Newman, 80, a resident of Williamsburg, VA, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016.
Alfred and his wife, Kathleen, were members of the Smith Memorial Baptist Church. He attended Matthew Whaley School in Williamsburg, VA and later joined the United States Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War.
Alfred spent his career in the Air Force and after retiring, enjoyed hobbies such as oil painting, Bluegrass music, gardening and antiquing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Bennie E. and Susie Belle Newman, Sr.; brother Bennie Newman, Jr.; and his first wife, Annie L. Nixon. Alfred is survived by his wife, Kathleen Newman; son James R. Newman and wife, Joan Clark McLellon; daughter Renee Newman Diggs and husband, Brian Diggs; stepchildren Catherine Sullivan, Paula McCall and Albert Girard; and grandchildren David and Kyle Newman, Hailey and Eric Diggs.
Visitation will be held at Smith Baptist Memorial Church, 6515 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188 on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10:00am. The service will begin at 11:00am and inurnment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
