Frank Phillip Friedland, 74, was born on August 5, 1942 to Raye and Sidney Friedland in Newport News, Virginia. He passed away on September 7, 2016 at home. Frank graduated from Newport News High School, East Carolina University and earned his CLU and ChFC from American College. He was a life insurance agent who was awarded many recognitions during his 45 year career, including man of the year for Aetna, Connecticut Mutual’s Broker of the year in Tidewater and a top agent for over 20 years with North American Insurance Company. Always athletic, Frank played high school and college football, ran marathons and exercised every day. Competitive, he loved playing chess, bridge and any game he thought was a challenge. Frank and Marsha were married on December 17, 1972 and shared a wonderful life together. They loved to travel and visited 40 countries with Paris, France and St. Barths being their favorites. Frank was an amazing husband, loyal friend and an exceptional mentor. Frank is survived by the love of his life, Marsha; his brother, Dr. Bernard Friedland (Celia); his brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen Lenett (Maria); his sister-in-law, Mindy Russell (Gary); nieces and nephews, Mindi Ranney (Jim and Max); Sheri Trembley (Hannah, Justin Griggs and Tanner); Traci Dobronravova (Slava); Sarah Russell and Rebecca Russell. Frank will also be missed by many more relatives and friends and his old English sheepdog, Farley. A service celebrating Frank’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Temple Sinai, 11620 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Virginia, with Rabbi Severine Sokol officiating.
