James Bartley Martin Sr.

James Bartley “JB” Martin, Sr., of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away, Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at his home. “JB” was born in Richmond, Virginia on August 18, 1946 to James Edward and Mildred Ogburn Johnson Martin. “JB” served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Independence from 1967-1973, in the Mediterranean. Later he would become a Virginia Game Warden and Deputy Sherriff for Hanover County. “JB” worked along-side his father at Radio Communications until he retired. He later also retired as a Technician with Arcet Equipment. “JB” is survived by his wife, Grace Martin; five sons, James B. Martin Jr. (Katie), Brian Michael Martin, Matthew N. Martin (Kimberly), Bobby Lee Rivers and Eddie Clarke (Jennifer); one daughter, Michelle Lee Smith (Bart); nine grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Mayers and Betty Jane Hughes (Bill); nephew, Chris Andrews along with many other nephews, nieces and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover CREW Foundation. Memorial Visitation for James Bartley “JB” Martin Sr. will be 5-8:00 p.m., Friday, May, 12, 2017 at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
