Obituary of Mary Virginia Ritter Lipps
Mary Virginia (Ritter) “Tootie” Lipps, formerly of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Reflections Memory Care Center in Chatham, Illinois. Virginia was born on June 24, 1931 in New Albany to Carl J. and Kathleen (Wolfe) Ritter. She married J. Paul Lipps on August 21, 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Paul Lipps, parents, Carl and Kathleen Ritter; brother, Frank N. Ritter, several aunts and uncles including Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter, and brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. and Mary Helen Lipps. Virginia was originally a teacher and became the first lay teacher at Holy Family School. She was later employed for 22 years by the Floyd County Auditor and was the First Deputy to the Auditor at the time of her retirement in 1991. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, quilting, tutoring, baking, and traveling. She is survived by a son, Stephen Paul Lipps of Terre Haute, Indiana, daughter, Mary Carolyn (Scott) Garriott of Rochester, Illinois, two granddaughters, Margaret Kathleen and Mollie Katherine Garriott, sister-in-law Gertrude Erlacher Ritter, six nieces and six nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at Kraft Funeral Home, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church 129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany, Indiana. A rosary service will be held at 5pm Thursday at the funeral home.
