Obituary of Patricia Anne Eure Garey
GAREY, Patricia Eure (Trish), passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday July 23, 2017. She was preceded in death by her father Otho Felton Eure, mother Gertrude Evelyn Eure, nieces Stacey and Kelli Booth and brother-in-law Chip Booth. Trish is survived by her husband and best friend of 43 years, Louis, son Andrew, daughter Kathryn, daughter-in-law Rachael, granddaughter Charlotte, sister Brenda Booth grandniece Ashley Booth, brother Thomas Eure sister-in-law Kathy and niece Jessica. Trish was a graduate of Hermitage High School. She was a proud member of the Stuart Circle School of Nursing class of 1966 where she made numerous lifelong friends, notably Margaret, Marty and Susan. Trish earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the MCV/VCU School of Nursing in 1968 and a Masters Degree in 1973 from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. It was during her time in Baltimore that she developed a lifelong friendship with her best friend Helen, tried to hold off the advances of Louis and coexisted with the world’s meanest cat “Sweet Pea” aka “Damnit”. Louis finally convinced her to marry him and she and “Damnit” moved back to Richmond. Trish and Louis were married in the Maymont Italian Garden on June 8, 1974. Trish taught nursing at MCV/VCU until her retirement due to a stroke in 2004. During her time at the School of Nursing she touched thousands of lives in the nursing field. She was a member of New Hanover Presbyterian Church for many years where she volunteered for Caritas and Habitat for Humanity. Trish was one of the original church ladies at New Hanover. This group included her special friend Pat with whom she shared her love of plants, gardening, and a good bargain at any price. Trish gave her life for others and lived to take care of those she loved. She was an unbelievably devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, big sister and friend. She showed us that inner strength is a product of wisdom and kindness and set an example that has made us all better people. We will miss her gentle soul every day but we know that she sits with God, watching over all that we do. A memorial service to celebrate Trish’s life, will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116, followed by a time to visit and share memories with the family. Those who wish to speak will be invited to do so at the service. Reception to follow at 7256 Shannondale Rd., Mechanicsville. In lieu of flowers please donate to Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Nature Conservancy, Feed More, or VCU School of Nursing.
