George William Pettengell

George W. Pettengell, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on September 7, 2017. George was born in England on February 9, 1934 and was raised in the London Borough of Bromley, Kent. In 1949, at the age of 15, he began his career as a Cooper at Whitbread Brewery in London. On June 6, 1959, George married the love of his life, Marie; and in December 1967, they immigrated to the United States with their young daughters. He was the Master Cooper of Colonial Williamsburg from 1967 until his retirement in June 1999.
George is survived by his daughters and their families, Ann Marie P. Tussey (Michael, Logan and Carson), Elaine J. Whiteaker (Mark, Megan and Kevin), Nicola F. Busching (Jordan, Taylor and Reilly) and Louise V. Denkins (Todd, Max and Jack). George is also survived by his brothers, Ted Pettengell (Joan), Jim Pettengell (Pam) and sister, Jean Spearpoint, along with his nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor, The Cottage, for their compassion and support. In loving memory of George and Marie, the family requests donations to Hospice House of Williamsburg. All arrangements are private for the immediate family.
