Obituary of Alfred Richard Caudill
Alfred Richard Caudill, 89, was called home on October 31, 2017. His Christian beliefs removed all fear for leaving life on earth to enter his eternal home. He was born on May 17, 1928 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He moved to the Lynchburg area at a young age and resided in the New London area of Campbell County. He was the eighth child of the late William W. and Millie Maureen (Smith) Caudill. Alfred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Perdue Caudill, brothers, Frank, Charles, William (Bill), Darius, Robert (Bob), and Luther, as well as his sister, Josephine Wade. He is survived by a devoted brother-in-law, John Shelton of Roseland, VA; and a special niece, Beverly Caudill Beahm and husband David, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alfred proudly served wartime service to his country in the U.S. Navy during World War ll. He was in naval aviation and worked on F-6 Hellcats and F-4U Corsairs. His love for aircrafts and flying continued throughout his life which leads him to obtain his pilot’s license. He loved flying and always enjoyed telling younger generations about his experiences in the Navy. He also had a talent for restoring old bicycles and had an extensive knowledge of old cars. Alfred felt blessed to have many friends and family who loved and cared for him. He enjoyed two very special friends, Norm and Susan Reichenbach who exhibited the love of Christ to him. Their frequent visits and the nice prayers were a real inspiration to Alfred. He greatly appreciated the care and friendship of caregiver Robin Anderson. He was also grateful for his friendship with Cheryl Cropco who along with Susan Reichenbach helped with the care of his cats who were like children to him. We wish to thank New Century Hospice and The VA in Salem and Lynchburg for the excellent care and comfort for Alfred and his family during his final days. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Virginia Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider memorial contributions to the New Century Hospice, 6000 Boonsboro Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
