Obituary of Rev.  Russell Earl "Russ" Marshall
Rev. Russell Earl “Russ” Marshall, 69, of Verona, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. He was born on December 4, 1948, in Churchill, Tennessee, one of six children of the late Robert F. and Anna Mae Marshall. Russ was a warrior that believed no matter what got you down in life, you could get up again with God’s help. Russ attended Pekin High School in Pekin, Illinois and later attended Illinois Central College. He proudly serviced his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Russ lived and worked in Peoria, Illinois area and retired after 15 years of service with Caterpillar Tractor Company. Following retirement, he worked as a minister of the gospel as an evangelist and a pastor; as well as a singer, song writer and musician. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Francis Lloyd-Stevenson. Russ is survived by his wife of 40 years, Glenda (Garrett) Marshall; children, Russell W. Marshall and his wife, Treva and Marietta L. Bradford; grandchildren, Brandon and Devin, Ella Grace and John Russell Bradford; siblings, Samuel Frank Marshall, Mark Clyde Marshall, Daniel Gilbert Marshall and Mary Lucintha Weeks; as well as extended family and friends. A Home Going Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Shenandoah Pentecostal Church, 1640 Lee Hwy, Fort Defiance, with Rev. Dewain French and Rev. Greg Douglas officiating. Burial will be private at Southwest Virginia Veteran Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services at the church. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Shenandoah Pentecostals of Fort Defiance, his church family, the Virginia Veterans Care Center, where he lived for the last five years, and the Salem Veterans Medical Center, where he was cared for during his illnesses and battle with early on-set Dementia.
