Obituary of Peggy C. Reed
Peggy Conway Reed, 82, of Waynesboro passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Augusta Health. Born July 28, 1935 in Ayden, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie M. and Mary C. (Andrews) Conway. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro. As a church member, she had previously served as Deacon and had assisted with the flower, decorating and meal committees. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the former E.I. DuPont Co. where she worked for 38 ½ years. Peggy served as a volunteer for the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity and Augusta Health. She held a leadership role in bringing The Serenity Garden to Waynesboro in 2008 and served on the board for many years. As a member of the Waynesboro Woman’s Club, she served as President, Vice President and Treasurer for a number of years, served as Chairman of the Scholarship Committee and was awarded the Waynesboro Outstanding Woman of the Year Award in 2010. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Reed; son, Steven Whitehurst; brothers, Edward A. Conway and James E. Conway; aunt, Elizabeth Thomas. Survivors include her daughter, Vickie Whitehurst of Greenville, NC; two grandchildren, Jessica Albea and husband, Travis and Dana Congleton and husband, Trent; three great grandchildren, Riley Albea, Landon Congleton and Trent Congleton, Jr. Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro with Pastor Barrett Owen officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church’s fellowship hall where the family will receive friends.
