Obituary of Charles "Chuck" Mabre Armstrong
Charles "Chuck" Armstrong, 73, of Glen Allen, Va., went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2018. He was a beloved husband and father who is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn; his son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Leah; grandchildren, Lindsey and Wesley; father, J. Mabre Armstrong; and brother, Randy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dale Williamson Armstrong, and brother, Gary. Chuck graduated from Red Bank High School in Chattanooga, Tenn. He earned degrees from East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee. Chuck was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Army Artillery. Chuck began his career as a reporter for the Johnson City Press Chronicle. He later served as an editor of public affairs for various entities, including the Division of Continuing Education at UVA, as well as VDOT, where he retired in 2007. Chuck and Carolyn attended Living Word Church of Chesterfield County. He was active in the 2nd Half Men’s Group at St. Giles Church and several tennis groups, loved kayaking and being on the water, enjoyed music, reading, and studying the Bible. He was a friendly and faithful man and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018.
