Sean Murphy, age 51, passed away in his sleep on Monday, February 5, 2018, at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Sean was born September 30, 1966, in Cañon City, Colorado, to John Michael Murphy and Diana Kay Lick. Sean graduated from Cañon City High Schoolin 1985 and from the University of Colorado with a degree in political science in 1989. He married Johannah Marie Pourciau and together they have three sons, John Patrick Murphy, Peter Joseph Murphy and Charles Michael Murphy. Sean’s only sibling is his youngersister, Michelle Leann Madayag. Sean loved politics, and his career began as a 4th grade volunteer on a county commissioner race. Active in Colorado politics for many years, Sean served as campaign manager for Congressman Bob Schaffer, Bob Greenlee, and CongressmanBob Beauprez. He served as the Executive Director of the Colorado Republican Party from 1999 - 2002. Working more than fifteen years as a congressional staffer on Capitol Hill, Sean served as Chief of Staff for Congressman Bob Beauprez of Colorado for fouryears and for Congressman Tom Cole of Oklahoma for eleven years. He was a wise counselor, a good friend and a generous mentor to dozens of people on Capitol Hill and on many political campaigns. Sean was a devoted husband and father and will be missed byall who knew him. Services will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church where he and his family have been parishioners since moving to Alexandria in 2003.
