IN THE CARE OF
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home
Pastor Mary Slaven, 93, of Terre Haute, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 19, 2018. She was born on March 12, 1924, in Terre Haute to Millage and Della (Baker) Nesler.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Quince G. Slaven. She is survived by two brothers-in-law, Bob Slaven and Bill Slaven.
Mary was a pastor for over 50 years, having served at the Fontanet United Brethren Church and Higher Ground Christian Center. She had no children of her own, but she was lovingly known as Mother Mary from all her God-given children in her congregation.
Mary’s life consisted completely of loving and serving her precious Savior. Not only was she a wonderful pastor and teacher of God’s word, she also had a natural talent for music. Mary wrote many beautiful songs which will continue to be enjoyed. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her God-given family. Mary’s words to all who knew her would be “Make sure you are there.”
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 at Higher Ground Christian Center, officiated by Pastor Faron Richard. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m at the church. Mary will be laid to rest in New Harmony Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mattoxwood.com
