Obituary of Elizabeth Jeffries Howard
Elizabeth Jeffries Howard, 98, of Culpeper, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 2, 2018. Elizabeth was born on January 13, 1920, in Culpeper, VA, to William Lewis, II and Emma Jane Glascock Jeffries. She graduated from Strayer Business College, and then married H.W. “Whitey” Howard on May 31, 1940 in Washington, D.C. Elizabeth worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for over 40 years,was a life-long and faithful member of Culpeper Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught children, and volunteered in numerous other ways. She was a member of the Culpeper chapter of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and served as a Pink Lady with the Hospital Auxiliary. Elizabeth loved music and was a long-time member of Stage Alive Community Concert Association. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and she gave freely of her time in order to help her community and her church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she was a beloved member of her community who will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Mildred Curtis, of San Antonio, TX, her children Barbara Howard of New Kent, VA, Bill Howard and wife Glenda of Keswick, VA, Jim Howard and wife Shelia of King George, VA, and Dudley Howard and wife Sandi of Rixeyville, VA, Jane Burke of Culpeper, VA, John Howard and wife Alicia, of Savannah, GA; and Betsy Smith and husband Jon of Culpeper, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kim Buchanan, Niki Spencer, Jimmy Howard, Jennifer Gardner, Angela Frazier, Jeff Howard, Carly Burke, Ian Burke, Michael Howard, Samantha Howard, Danielle Coffey, Taylor Smith, Rachel Smith, and Rebekah Smith, as well as many great grandchildren. She’s also survived by her nieces and nephews, Dean Martin, Dottie Jessup, Nancy Coleman, and Jeff Jeffries and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.W. “Whitey” Howard, her parents, William L. and Emma Jane Glascock Jeffries, her brother, William Lewis Jeffries, III, and her grandson, Edwin Douglas “Skip” Smoot. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m, Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in the Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West Street, Culpeper with interment to follow in the Culpeper National Cemetery, US Avenue, Culpeper. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, humility, and generosity: “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered” (Proverbs 11:25).
