Betty Jean Boseley (nee Gardner), age 82 of Arlington, Virginia died March 7, 2018 in Naperville, Illinois. She was a patient and caring mother and also a strong and kind friend to many. She was born in New Creek West Virginia just after the great depression to Holmes and Etta Gardner who raised Betty along with her two older sisters, Louise and Catherine and several years later her little brother, Holmes, Jr. Betty settled in Arlington after marrying her husband, Gail “Peanut” Boseley. She met him when she was “just a kid” after being coaxed by her mother to just go on one date with him, “I mean, it’s not like you’re going to marry him or anything,” her mom had told her. Gail and Betty spent the early years of their marriage counting their change for gas money for weekend trips back home to West Virginia. Eventually the pinching and saving paid off when they bought a house, the only house they ever owned – a Cape Cod style in Arlington in what eventually became known as the Ballston area. Depression babies, who were raised in an environment of poverty, Gail and Betty were able to provide a charming life for themselves with hard work and discipline. They both set an example of the American Dream. Twenty years after they were married, their only daughter, Gayle was born. Betty left her job as a bookkeeper at Safeway to care for her. Caring became Betty’s calling. Once Gayle was in school, Betty started a private daycare which she ran out of her home helping to raise children with the same attention she gave her daughter. Betty’s daycare family no matter how old the children grew to be, were always in her thoughts. Funeral Services for Betty will be held Monday, March 12 starting 1 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, Virginia 22203. Betty leaves behind her daughter, Gayle Schliemann of Naperville, Illinois, a sister Catherine Sullivan of Oakland, Maryland, a sister Louise Smith and many other extended family members and friends.
