Obituary of Robert Lee Nick
Robert L Nick, 78, of the Everton community died Friday evening, March 9, 2018, at his residence. He was born May 28, 1939 in Bell County, Kentucky the youngest of nine children of Charles D. and Flora Allen Nick. Robert attended school in Kentucky and later at Connersville High School. He had been employed at Design and Manufacturing until it closed and had previously worked at the Golay Manufacturing in Cambridge City and National Metal in Connersville. Robert was a member of the Western Avenue Baptist Church which he and his father-in-law helped build. He had also attended the Blooming Grove Baptist and the Everton Southern Baptist Churches. Robert was a fan of the Cincy Reds and enjoyed the outdoors rabbit hunting and fishing. In his leisure time he liked to spend time as a woodworker. Robert cherished the time with his family, especially his grandchildren, often traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Virginia Ruth Gabbard whom he married February 11, 1961 at the Western Avenue Baptist Church; his children and their spouses: Doug Nick of Liberty, Fred Nick and Tammy of Indianapolis, Sherry Abner and Robert, Tracey Nick, all of Richmond, Kentucky; his grandchildren: Cody, Seth, Chelsea, Chris, Nicholas, Farrin, Kylie; his great-granddaughter: Mira Rounsifer; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings: Ralph, George, Tom and Gene Nick; Mary Howard, Elizabeth Stanvick, Josephine Mullins, Kathleen Williams; and his daughter-in-law: Sherry F. Nick. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Paul Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday.
