Donald James Igo

Donald J. Igo passed away at his home in Springfield Virginia on March 10th after a brief illness. He was 91 years old. He was born in Plymouth Massachusetts in 1926. His family moved to Kingston Massachusetts in 1929 where he remained through graduation from Kingston High School. In 1943 he began college at Harvard University but his education was interrupted by service in the United States Merchant Marine and the United States Navy from 1944 to 1948. After the war he returned to Harvard and graduated cum laude with a BA in economics in 1950.He obtained an MA in economics from American University in 1954. In 1951 he married Doris Grandmont of Brockton Massachusetts. They were married for 65 years, until her death in 2016. He moved to Washington D.C. in 1951 and held a variety of positions in academia, government agencies and private firms. In 1966 he joined the United States Department of Transportation as an economist and remained with the department until his retirement in 1998. He is survived by his children Susan Draper, James Igo, Joseph Igo and Karen Kenton as well as four grandchildren. A memorial service and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
