Obituary of Jean Ann Bruns Hahn
JEAN (BRUNS) HAHN, 72, of Fort Wayne, died on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home of Fort Wayne after a long, courageous battle against breast cancer. Born on August 3, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Roman and Rita Bruns of St. Henry, Ohio. After graduation from St. Henry High School, Jean came to Fort Wayne to attend college at the University of Saint Francis where she acquired her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. During this time she met Joseph D. Hahn, her devoted husband, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage in May of 2017. Their two sons, Christopher and Jason, benefited by having Jean as mother and teacher. Jean lived her many roles in life to the fullest as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and teacher. She gave 38 years of service to the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend by teaching in its parochial schools at St. John the Baptist, Fort Wayne, from 1969 to 2001, and Bishop Luers High School from 2001 to 2007. In her role as teacher, she touched and enriched the lives of her many students where she taught many important life lessons and shared her passion and expertise in History & Social Studies. A former student recently commented that next to his mother, Mrs. Hahn was the most influential woman in his life. Jean had a strong social conscience and truly lived her life in the service of others. In addition to her husband Joe, Jean is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law and grandchildren, Christopher (Missy) Hahn and children Olivia, Bailey and Holly of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jason (Eileen) Hahn and children Mary, Kathleen, James and Margaret of Oradell, New Jersey. Also surviving are brothers, Robert Bruns and John (Jean) Bruns; sisters, Judy (David) Didier, Margie (Don) Nottingham, her fervent and faithful caregiver, and Beverly Bramstedt; sister-in-law, Ethel Bruns; brother-in-law, Paul Dierker; and 38 special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Catherine Hahn; brother, Jerry Bruns; sister, Arlene Dierker; sister-in-law, Joan Bruns; and brother-in-law, Ray Bramstedt. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Church, 4500 Fairfield Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana, with calling one hour prior to service. Calling also from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Klaehn, Fahl, & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
