Susan Marcey Hubbard passed away peacefully in her home in Falls Church, VA, Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Susan was the second of three children born to Francis Ray and Frances Teel Marcey of Falls Church. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Hubbard-Darr, her son-in-law, William Darr, her four grandchildren, Nicholas, Johnathan, Samantha, and Alexander Darr, her sister Bonnie Marcey and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frances and Francis Marcey, her husband Gary Hubbard, and her brother Eric Marcey. Susan grew up in Falls Church, VA. She attended McLean High School, where she was an all-around athlete - basketball player, cheerleader, and diver and synchronized swimmer. She was an avid dancer and lover of the jitterbug, as well, teaching dance for a time as a second job. Susan loved the water, and the beach was truly her happy place. She also enjoyed crochet, stained glass, and casual gambling. She had a passion for antiques, collecting classic American heritage pieces throughout her life. In addition, Susan was always fascinated with the inner workings of our federal government and politics, in general, and spent countless hours reading, researching, and debating a variety of topics. Susan began working for the Department of the Treasury when she was eighteen years old and retired after forty-two years of service – thirty-eight of which were actual years and the other four accumulated leave. Susan didn’t believe in taking time off. She was a dedicated worker and took her position very seriously. Her diligence paid off, as she earned the level of Senior Executive when she was in her early thirties. Susan was also a proponent of education. Though she wasn’t fortunate enough to attend college immediately after high school, she earned her degree and masters certificate in Business Administration from Simmons College in 1981 - the same year her daughter, Leslie, graduated from high school and her mother, Frances, earned her GED. Susan had one of the biggest and most giving hearts anyone will encounter. She gave generously of herself and her resources, helping family members reach their personal goals, and volunteering in her community, including serving for more than fifteen years on the board of the Treasury Federal Credit Union and working for more than ten years with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Falls Church Fire and Rescue Department. Susan loved her home and hosting parties. Her family was everything to her, and her ability to navigate difficult situations was an example to many. Susan’s loving and forgiving personality was present to the end. Her presence will be sorely missed in this world. God’s Peace, Susan - until we see you again…
