Nancy Lynn Furlong

Nancy Lynn Furlong passed away suddenly on Sunday April 29, 2018. She spent the last month of her life enjoying all her favorite things: family, friends, gardening, planning vacations at the beach and her two corgis. Nancy was born on August 25, 1955 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to John Edward and Marilyn Louise Hertogs. She spent her early childhood days in Minneapolis and later moved with her family to Toronto, Canada where she attended high school. She married her high school sweetheart, James (“Jim”) Furlong in June 1978. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this June. Together they moved to Raleigh, North Carolina while Jim attended graduate school. They later moved to New Jersey where she gave birth to their two children: Kelly Lynn Furlong and Kevin John Furlong. Shortly after, the young family moved to Springfield, Virginia where they have lived for more than 34 years. Nancy always put family first. She was a very kind, gentle and loving woman who will be remembered as someone who always saw the positive side of life. Survivors include her husband, Jim; two children: Kelly Furlong of Washington, D.C., Kevin and wife Madeline Furlong of Arlington, Virginia, her only grandchild Elena; her sister, Barbara Gray of Toronto, Canada, and brother Steven of Chicago. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Marilyn Hertogs.
