Obituary of Gertrud Marie "Trudy" Sieber Lotano
Gertrud Marie “Trudy” Lotano died peacefully at home in the company of her immediate family on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Born on May 25, 1938 in St. Gallen Switzerland, to Berta and Augustus Sieber, she was the fourth child of six siblings. After studying at the San Francisco School of Arts, she traveled across the United States to New York City, where she met a young medical student on Pier 19 - Remo A. Lotano - the love of her life. There they began their journey together across the Atlantic and the rest of their life. Living in Switzerland before returning to the States. A few years after meeting, they joyfully joined their hands in marriage, and together lovingly raised three children, Christine, Remo and Marco. Trudy (as she preferred to be called) was one of the first female graphic artists in Switzerland at a time when men dominated the field, designing for clients such as Lindt chocolates and Volkswagen. Unable to practice in the US, she continued painting and collecting art throughout her life. Trudy was an expert skier (and instructor), an avid tennis player, and competitive swimmer. She loved traveling, the arts and the outdoors, and spending time with her children, their friends, and especially with her grandchildren - Catharine, Alessandra, and Jude Denning. Trudy will be lovingly remembered for her humor, endearing love, insight, and optimism by her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and her numerous supportive friends. Everyone loved to laugh with Trudy. The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all of her caregivers Gloria, Cathy, Sarahi, Linda along with the nurses and social workers at Centra Hospice of Lynchburg who provided wonderful care and support for Trudy and our entire family. They are the finest.
