Norman Edward Barker

Norman Edward Barker, 78, passed from this life on Thursday, June 14, 2018. Norman was born on August 10, 1939 to the late Dorothy and Woodrow Barker in Paris Crossing, Indiana. A funeral service for Norman will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Myers-Reed Chapel with Father Martin Peter Officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Immediately following burial, a celebration of life will be held at the Columbus Elks Lodge on Ray Boll Blvd. Friends may call from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday June 18, 2018 at the funeral home, with an addition visitation one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. After graduating from Paris Crossing High School in 1957, Norman Joined the National Guard and attended drafting school followed by his employment at Arvin Industries in Columbus. In 1965 Norman along with two friends ventured out on their own and opened Progressive Tool and Machine. Finally after 49 years Norman decided to retire and closed his business. He was previously married to Avis Sherron who is the mother of his three children. Norman enjoyed spending time with his friends on the golf course, especially their annual trips to Florida. When he wasn’t golfing you could find him at the River Boat Casino and he especially looked forward to trips to Las Vegas. During the past several years he also began enjoying going on cruises with family and friends where he got to see a lot of great places. He also enjoyed playing cards with his buddies at the Elks Lodge of which he a member. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Norman is survived by his companion of 30 years, Mary Sturgill, her children; Teresa Kelsey, Jon Sturgill, Kelly Cowan, her grandchildren; Christopher (Danielle) Kelsey, Carrigan Kelsey, Melissa Sturgill, RJ Sturgill, Elizabeth Sturgill, Misty Cowan, Carson Cowan, Carly Cowan, Emily England; and great-grandchildren Kayne Gentry, Ryan Martin, Kyndal Willard; Son, Scott (Tammy) Barker; Daughters Marcie (Lynn) Ritchey, Elisha (Jason) King; grandsons Kyle Ritchey and Cole Staggs; brothers, Roger Barker, Billy Barker, Ernest Barker, Terry Wayne Barker, and sister, Pauline Brooks. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ireva Barker.
