Obituary of Reuben Harold Meeler
Reuben Harold Meeler, 68, of Henderson, Kentucky, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. He was born on September 23, 1949, in Porterdale, Georgia. He was one of six children born to G.C. and Ozelle Meeler. Reuben moved from Georgia as a young boy to Evansville, Indiana where he grew up. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1967. Reuben was a banker most of his life, working for Citizens National Bank for 35 years and retiring from Fifth Third Bank in 2007. Reuben, or Harold as he was affectionately called by family and close friends, always put others interests ahead of his own. He had many roles in his life; son, brother, husband, father, pawpaw, boss and friend. In all these roles, he was genuine and believed in the simple power of treating people the way he would want to be treated. Words that define him are kind, understanding, faithful, wise, loyal, humble, and good. He was a special person that made everyone around him feel better. Reuben showed in all aspects of his life that heart and integrity belong together, that humor and sincerity can coexist, and that generosity and determination make almost anything possible. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His faith and love for God and neighbor proved to be the motivation for the way he lived his life and the kind of person he was. He was preceded in death by his parents, G.C. and Ozelle Meeler. Reuben is survived by a large family that he loved. His wife of 45 years, Rebecca (Herrell) Meeler; son, Matthew (Heather) Meeler; daughter, Leslie (Ben) Bartow; four grandchildren, Ethan Meeler, Tristyn Meeler, Spencer Bartow, Piper Meeler; and two great-grandchildren. Three sisters; Linda (Robert) Sumner, Bonnie (Robin) Fraser, and Lisa (Dan) Alumbaugh; two brothers, Larry (Donna) Meeler, and Mark (Anna) Meeler. Five sisters-in-law; Sherrie (Jim) Niethammer, Dora Gaylor, Elizabeth (Henry) Carner, Donna (Curt) Ellis, and Charlene (Evan) Ellis; one brother-in-law, Melvin (Belinda) Herrell. Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Mark Swope.
