Obituary of John Vincent Scully III
John Vincent Scully III, beloved husband, father, and brother, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2018, at age 72. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth; 4 daughters and 11 grandchildren: Angie and husband Patrick, their daughters Olivia and Isabelle, Alexandra, her son Malachi; Amberleigh and husband Trip, their children Dulaney, Kyla, Emmanuel, Quinn, and Bo Vincent, and Arynne and husband Shane, their children Ty, Brooks, and Gia; 2 brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Elaine; and Edward and his wife, Ruth; and 2 sisters, Laura, and Janet and her husband Ingo. John was born in New York City on February 4, 1946, eldest son of John Vincent Scully Jr. and Ruth Sadewasser Scully. He grew up in Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey, graduating from high school in 1964. John attended Houghton College in New York, graduating with a degree in Sociology in 1968. He married Ruth Wilkinson on June 7, 1975, and lived in Montreal, Quebec for 3 years. He moved with his wife and 2 daughters to the suburbs of Denver, Colorado in 1978, where his youngest 2 daughters were born. He moved his family to Charlottesville, VA in 1986, where he lived 32 years. John was always artistic, very creative, and worked in mostly Christian organizations, most recently as Art Director and Archivist at Christian Aid Mission. He loved artwork, hiking, reading, and traveling, especially cruising. He was patient and humble, kind and loving, gentle, non-judgmental and an encourager with a quiet strength. John was a truth seeker and deep thinker, full of wisdom. Family and his Christian faith were John’s first priority. He loved family life with his wife and 4 daughters and subsequently their families, visiting and vacationing with them as much as he could. He loved living near his siblings, sharing life and family gatherings together. John was thankful for how God provided for his family, always feeling richly blessed because of them and his Christian heritage. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Aid Mission or The Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia.
