CARSON, Melvin Freeman, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away July 22, 2018. He was born May 6, 1936, in Lunenburg County, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Daisy G. Carson; brother, Bernard E. Carson; sisters, Elnora C. Tanner and Charlotte E. Carson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Willamenia Audrey Reed Carson; daughters, Robin C. Satkowski of Florida, Melanie C. Stevens of Mechanicsville, Va. and Kelly C. Johnson of Chesterfield, Va.; brothers, George M. Carson of Florida and Ollie A. Carson of Maryland. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After graduating from Victoria High School in 1955, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft loadmaster on C-124s. He retired from E.I. DuPont in 2001 after 40 years of service. After retirement, he went back to work as a consultant for five years. He enjoyed many things in life, such as his grandchildren, trout fishing and tying flies. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 25, 2018, at the Atlee Chapel of the Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116. Interment will be July 26, 2018, 2 p.m., in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Va.
