Gertrud King, 78, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2018. She was the widow of John William King. Born in Bad Homburg, Germany, she was the daughter of Hans G. & Mathilde Vogt. She moved to the U.S. in April 1966 and became a naturalized citizen in April 1976.
She was a business owner / entrepreneur. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, relaxing at Kerr Lake and watching her favorite Hallmark shows. She will be remembered for the depth of her generosity, kindness and care she showed all she met.
She is survived by her children, William King, Charles King and wife Sara, Charlotte Lange and husband Brian; five grandchildren, Brandon, Rachel, Samantha, Will, and Andreas; longtime companion, Garry Frye, his son, Jody Frye and husband Ron; and numerous friends who she loved.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Woody Funeral Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VCU Massey Cancer Center at “massey.vcu.edu” or the cancer charity of your choice.
