Donald L. McBride

Donald Lee McBride, Sr., was born on June 9, 1928 and went to be with our Lord on August 6, 2018. He grew up in what Don thought was most wonderful, Willoughby, Norfolk, VA, the son of Delmar and Mabel McBride. He is survived by the love of his life for 66 years Elizabeth B. McBride and their children Donald Lee McBride, Jr. (Deborah), Carol McBride Belote (Mark); grandchildren Brooke Schott (Josh) Courtney Phipps (Jason) Jordan Lee McBride, Leeanne Belote, Marcus Lee Belote (Alex); great grandchildren Baileigh, Joshua, Ava and Colton. Donald was proud to serve his country in the United States Army WW II. After returning home he became a part of the Norfolk Police Department. He then became employed by C & P Telephone (now Verizon) as a Staff Supervisor and had 34 years of service. He worked for the U.S. Government D.O.D. and Freedom Ford retiring from both. He was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church for 59 years and the Friendship Sunday School Class serving as President for many terms. His great joy was serving as an usher and greeting all on Sunday morning. Don was a member of Ocean View Lodge # 335 AF &AM with 60 years, Kempsville Lodge #196 AF & AM for 19 years, Scottish Rite, 50 years, Khedive Shrine, past Chief Aide, past Director of Uniformed Units, Member of Legion of Honor, American Legion Post 113 and Telephone Pioneers of America. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Kempsville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kempsville Baptist Church Building Fund.
