Lois Alwayne Chilcott

Lois Alwayne Chilcott went home to the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born on March 9, 1933 in Bryson City, North Carolina to parents Lora Gunter Lafon and Charles P. Gunter. Alwayne was a loving wife and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from Newport News Shipyard in 1984 after 21 years of service. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and Grand Ruth. She was also a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she served in the choir. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Floyd "Pete" Chilcott; sons, Michael (Pat) and Craig (Ginny); grandchildren, Chris Chilcott (Dawn), Denise Howell (Shawn), Donna Harrington (Matt), Catie Chilcott, Robert Shepard (Melanie ), and Steven Shepard (Crystal Clemens); and great-grandchildren Madison and Alycea Chilcott, Jacob Howell, Brycen Harrington, and Sebastian, Sage, Reagan, Peyton Shepard. A graveside interment service celebrating Alwayne’s life will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
