Obituary of Helen Conway Galea
Helen Conway Galea, of Manakin Sabot, VA passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 10, 2018. Helen was born on December 31, 1923 in Albany, NY to the late Thomas Vincent Conway and Mary Flynn Conway. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John H. Galea, and her only sibling, Thomas V. Conway of Cleveland, OH. Surviving family includes her son, Mark C. Galea, (Nancy) of Hudson, OH; and daughters, Michelle Stover (Ed) of Manakin Sabot, VA; Mary Ellen Salony (Jon) of New York, NY; Monica Galea (Stan Crews) of Midlothian, VA and Madeleine Galea of Tryon, NC. Helen is also survived by her only nephew, Thomas V. Conway, wife Joyce and their three children, all of Ohio. Helen has three married grandsons and five great grandchildren: Benjamin C. and Mary Catherine Galea, daughter, Hannah of Highland Park, IL; Adam C. and Megan Galea, daughters, Piper and Wren of Milwaukee, WI, and Daniel F. and Kara Galea, daughter, Claire and son, Owen of St. Joseph, MI. Helen grew up in Albany, NY, and was graduated from the Cathedral School and College of St. Rose, both located in Albany. Prior to moving to Richmond, VA in 1958, Helen and John lived in Boston, MA, Cleveland, OH and Louisville, KY. Helen and John lived in several Richmond neighborhoods. In 2006, she moved to Manakin Sabot to be closer to her daughter, Michelle and husband, Ed Stover. Since moving to Richmond, Helen has been a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. On Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10 am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bridget’s Church, 6606 Three Chopt Road. Richmond, Virginia. 23226, followed by a private interment. Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 North Parham Road Richmond, Virginia 23229 is handling the arrangements. The Galea children would like to express their deep appreciation to Ms. Avis Mickey, who devotedly cared for their Mother daily for almost 9 years. The children would also like to thank Ms. Elayne Scott. Elayne worked various night shifts for Mrs. Galea for several years, and was always willing to substitute when needed. In addition, the family is grateful for the care given by Charlene Sutton during their Mother’s last months. Lastly, but certainly not less important, Michelle would like to express her gratitude to Dena Mason of ComForcare. Dena has worked diligently over the years to insure Mrs. Galea would have competent and caring personal aides. Throughout the years Dena greatly assisted Michelle in the challenge of scheduling, covering vacations, and even insuring Mrs. Galea would have care coverage during periods of inclement weather.
