Obituary of Arrie Stowe "Archie" Barnett Jr.
Arrie Stowe “Archie” Barnett, Jr., 87, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Shenandoah House in Fishersville. Archie was born on January 11, 1931 in Talladega Springs, Alabama, to the late Stella Mae (Rudd) Barnett and Arrie Stowe Barnett, Sr. He served proudly in the United States Navy after attending Fayetteville High School. Archie married Thelma Estelle “Estie” Doyle on March 30, 1951 in Woodstock, Virginia. After his Navy service, Archie worked for General Electric/Genicom for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1991. He was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren and the Calvary United Methodist Church Food Bank. Archie was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jewell Hale, Bonnie McGrady, Ellen Sims, and Ronald Barnett. Archie is survived by Estie, his wife of 67 years; sons and their wives, Steve and Susan Barnett and Jeff and Ruby Barnett; siblings, Joree Bryant, Mary and Harold Underwood, Thomas and Jean Barnett, and Lydia and James Honeycutt. Pawpaw also leaves four grandchildren: Ryan (Shiloe) Barnett, Amy Barnett, Sarah Barnett, and Kirk Barnett; as well as many special nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 3pm on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2179 Stuarts Draft Hwy, Stuarts Draft, Virginia. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Coffman, James Jones, Bruce Nuckols, Tony Redifer, Robert Dzuba, and Larry Flint. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Archie’s memory to the Calvary United Methodist Church Food Bank, and /or the Hospice of the Shenandoah, PO Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia. The family of Mr. Barnett wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Shenandoah Hospice House, Ben Miller, Nena Farris, Steve and Chris Brewer for their special care and attention. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
