Obituary of Kenneth Ross Shorter
Kenneth Ross Shorter, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1938, in Terre Haute, to Donald Wayne Shorter and Stella Maude (Barbee) Shorter. He married Jane Hughes on January 8, 1960. Kenny is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Shorter of Terre Haute; daughters, Carol Stewart of Canton, MS; Robin Collins and husband Martin of Terre Haute; Angela Padgett and husband Mike of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Forrest Gholston, Madison Stewart, Ross Padgett, and Maren Padgett; great-grandson, Breckon Gholston; and dear cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Velma Schroeder. Kenny was a 1957 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. He joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in several places, including Little Rock A.F.B. in Arkansas, where he met the love of his life, Jane. The two moved back to Terre Haute to start their new life together. Kenny worked at Thompson Simon briefly before taking a job for PSI/Duke Energy. He spent much of his career working at the Cayuga Power Station. He retired after over 30 years of service. Kenny enjoyed staying in shape and was meticulous about his health. Walking was his favorite exercise and he would regularly walk ten miles a day. Often, Kenny could be found assisting Jane with her business, Shorter’s Upholstery. He liked fishing and target shooting. Kenny always looked forward to antique car shows and flea markets. He also liked working on cars in his spare time. Kenny was a devoted husband, wonderful father and grandfather, and a good friend to many. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those that came to know him. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday with an hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. John Lawson will officiate. Kenny will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
