Obituary of Elworth Ray Grady
Elworth Ray Grady, 88, of Culpeper, VA, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at UVA Culpeper Hospital. Ray was born February 7, 1930, to Thomas William and Mabel Brown Grady. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Christal Rudy, both of Culpeper, sons Thomas of Culpeper, VA and Anthony (Tia) of Alexandria, VA, his sister, Fay Grady Hatmaker of Chambersburg, PA, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his brother Douglas Grady and sisters May Grady Kirby and Shirley Ann Grady preceded Ray in death. With everything changing around him, Ray’s primary focus was consistently the welfare and safety of his family. Ray served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; was a chartered member of the Reva Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the American Legion; was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. An excellent carpenter, Ray put his skills to use for many years working for Chevy Chase Bank in a supervisory position. Much like his sister Shirley, Ray never knew a stranger; keeping in touch with many of his friends, always being the first to visit any of them if he heard of them not feeling well or needing help. The family will receive friends and family Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Clore-English Funeral Home Chapel Monday, October 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sandy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Eugene Corbin, Kevin Edwards, Anthony Grady, Mark Hicks, John Rudy and Jack Ward.
