IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Lorrie (Dolores) Buehler Farwell, 84, left us peacefully on November 6, 2018, to be with her beloved Bill. Lorrie was born and raised in West Orange, NJ. She spent her childhood fishing for tadpoles in King's Pond, tobogganing on the golf course, participating in Girl Scouts, church bazaars and youth groups. She was a majorette at her high school and college football games. In high school, she developed a taste for the fine art of shopping and we regret to notify all that Talbot's stock will surely drop without her loyal patronage. At the University of Vermont, Lorrie majored in fashion merchandising. She was Sweetheart of Phi Delta Theta, where she met her soul mate Bill, whom she married in 1957. As Bill's career progressed, Lorrie called herself a 'professional mover' and helped resettle the family in more than a dozen moves through OK, PA, NJ, NY, IL, MA and VA. She and Bill cleared many a dance floor at college Parents' Weekends with their jitterbug. Lorrie was an active volunteer at the White House and later at Colonial Williamsburg. During 16 years at Williamsburg and throughout her life, she loved her garden, her family, her neighborhood and especially her grandchildren. She was known for her sense of style, integrity, kindness to newcomers, quick laughter and playful spirit. Lorrie is survived by her daughters, Karen Farwell, Susan Farwell Mapes and son-in-law Gene Mapes; five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Madison, and McGuire (Macko) Saffin, Anne and Elisabeth Mapes; brother, Richard (Dick) Buehler; nieces, Jackie and Cassie Buehler and children; and sister-in-law Donnaleen Farwell. She was loved by neighbors and friends of all backgrounds and will be dearly missed. A service to celebrate Lorrie's life and 61 years with Bill will be held at Ford's Colony Golf & Country Club in Williamsburg, VA on Sunday, November 18th at 11:30am. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (www.williamsburghospice.org) or a charity of your choice.
