Gloria Suzanne Horning

Gloria Suzanne (Oberting) Horning, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born in Indianapolis the daughter of the late Floyd and Bonnie (Johnson) Oberting. She graduated from Thomas Carr High School with the class of 1952. She had modeled for L.S. Ayres Department Store in her earlier years and had worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company. She spent her life making a loving home and devoting herself to her family. She found great joy in Birthday and Holiday celebrations making them all a family affair and going above and beyond to make them special, and food was always involved. She believed in making “Every day like Sunday”. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on as only she could do. She found great joy in helping “raise” her grandchildren as she believed it “took a village” to keep her “Tribe” close. She took pride in her home to make it a welcoming and loving place for all to come and talk, celebrate, laugh and sometimes cry, always being there with her advice and a hug. Her love for her flower gardens and yard were evident, as she took great care to bring as much beauty for others to enjoy as well. Her life was her family, her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always making life amazing for them. She is preceded in death by her son, Nicholas Horning. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Horning; her children, Michele Horning Dippel and Matthew Horning (Angel); grandchildren, Cara Davis (Daniel), Tony Dippel, Dominic Dippel, Mario Dippel, Courtney (Horning) Dewitt, James Bevins, Nicholas Horning, Colsen Horning; great-grandchildren, Henry Davis, Gideon Addison and Ayden Dippel; her mother-in-Law, Margaret Horning; Sister-in-law, Anna Rose (Horning) Dalton (Michael); many other extended family members also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46219. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4-8PM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46219.
